Apple-Spice Cookies

A healthier low-fat cookie. Lots of spices and those irresistible chocolate chips!

Apple-Spice Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:
  • Oven Temperature: 350 degrees F.
  • Baking Time: 10-15 minutes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix together dry ingredients, including spices; set aside.

Beat together shortening and sugar until combined. Add egg and applesauce; beat until well combined.

Slowly add dry ingredients to shortening/egg mixture. Mix until well blended. Add chocolate chips and mix into the dough.

Drop by spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until just golden brown. Remove from oven. Let cool for 5 minutes on baking sheets, then remove cookies onto cooling rack.
